Naming a Control

Within your Zapp, each web control is assigned a unique name that can be used when writing short scripts using JavaScript in your Zapp. To view a control's name, open the web properties dialog, which is accessed by clicking the wrench icon for the desired control while in Simplify mode. The control's name will be included in the dialog header.

You can change the web control's default name to something more personalized. To do so, navigate to the "Properties" tab, and type the new name in the text field under "Unique name."

While you have the flexibility to provide your controls with more meaningful names, the structure of the web control must fulfill several criteria:

  • Names cannot begin with a number.
  • Names can only contain letters, numbers, $, and _.

If your chosen name does not fulfill these conditions, an error message will surface when you attempt to close the web properties dialog.

Click "No" to return to the dialog and update the web control name. Click "Yes" to close the dialog and cancel the name change.

In addition, to avoid potential errors, a web control's name must be unique throughout the Zapp. If the name you choose is not unique, the following error message will appear.

Click "No" to return to the dialog and update the web control name. Click "Yes" to close the dialog and cancel the name change.

You may also return the web control to the default name generated by the Designer at any time by clicking the cycle icon in the "Unique name" textbox.
